چکیده

Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness, loss of interest in activities and by decreased energy. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the key molecules modulating brain plasticity. Accumulating evidence has suggested a link between BDNF and depression. Animal studies demonstrated the production of BDNF and its tyrosine protein kinase receptor (trkB). In human studies, the BDNF level and BDNF mRNA in the brain decreased in patients with major depression. Furthermore, several studies demonstrated the serum BDNF levels of patients with major depression were lower than those of a control group, and the BDNF levels correlated negatively to scores for depression. Incidentally, exercise showed the beneficial effects on mental health in depressed sufferers, and recent studies demonstrated that exercise was hypothesized to regulate antidepressant-related mechanisms. Animal studies suggest that exercise may enhance neurobiological processes that increase the BDNF level and BDNF mRNA in the brain of the animals. However, the mechanism remains unresolved at present. Furthermore, there is no consensus on the serum BDNF response to the exercise in humans. We need further studies to examine the associations between serum BDNF level and exercise in depression.

Purpose: This study investigated the effect of endurance activity on brain-derived neurotrophic   factor(BDNF), insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) and its binding protein 3(IGFBP-3) in elderly   healthy individuals.   Materials and Methods: Eleven healthy old males (mean age of 68 ± 2.31 years old, height   of 177 ± 3.1 cm and weight of 79 ± 1.5 kg) were studied. Seventy two hours after maxi...

The Effect of Endurance Exercise Training on the Expression of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) Genes of the Cerebellum in Diabetic Rat

Objective: Few studies have been conducted on variations of the central nervous system of diabetic patients and much fewer investigations done on the cerebellum of diabetes patients. The current research aims to investigate the effect of endurance training on neurotrophic factors affecting the cerebellum in the diabetic rat. Materials and Methods: This study is experimental.Twenty Wistar rat w...

Effect of exercise training on saliva brain derived neurotrophic factor, catalase and vitamin c

Background: The balance between production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and antioxidant defense in the body has important health implications. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in salivary antioxidants: catalase, vitamin C and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), in sedentary men at rest and after acute exhaustive exercise.   Methods: This randomi...

Interactive effect of aerobic training and ginseng supplementation on brain-derived neurotrophic factor in 15-18 years old girls

Background and Objective: Neurotrophins are a family of growth factors that are primarily identified by their ability to protect neuronal survival. The family of neurotrophins consists of 4 proteins, one of which is the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of 6-week aerobic training and ginseng supplementation on BDNF in 15-18 ...
